The “Quaker Bears”, required a combination of hand puppetry and animatronics to give the producers what they were looking for in this commercial spot.
Friendly fuzzy happy-go-lucky Bears. Bears that with two heads and 3 bodies could , walk, eat, fall asleep, be blown far away by a volcano, then come back with bowls and eat oatmeal. Yum!

Foam latex was used for the skins of the bears. Fur and flocking was needed to complete the puppet illusion. One bear body was used bunraku style for a full body effect. Tourist puppets were created as bit players for the “Quaker Bear”commercial. Fabricated out of sheet foam and fabric, these colorful puppets were scene stealers. The mechanical under structure of the bears took servo implantation and machining of metal parts to create smooth and precise movement.
